I’m sorry I haven’t been keeping this updated like I should.  I’ve been too busy trying to figure out what in the heck my boy is doing with this hole punch.  Any ideas??

I was very excited for Kade to experience a White Christmas this year.  He had of course seen snow on previous trips to Colorado, but this would be the first time he could go out and play in it.  And the first time I could dress him up in a an adorable snow suit that made him walk with his arms out stiff.   The day, however, had a rough start.

I think the initial experience did not communicate how much fun snow could be.

He was not impressed.  So we tried to make a Snow Angel instead.

IMG_7999This, too, had less than optimal results.

However, once he realized that he could pile the snow on top of himself and play without it getting on his face, he ended up having a great day.  Mission Accomplished!

I wanted to do something “from Kade” for the Great-Grandparents Christmas gifts this year and eventually came up with the idea of making a set of felt coasters with his little handprint.  For simplicity, I chose the same wool felt color combination for each of the four sets, but varied it slightly so each set would be unique.  I had never worked with felt before, but ended up loving it.

First, I traced Kade’s hand on paper and then cut out 16 little handprints.  Then for ease, I attached each hand to one 4×4 square with Wonder-Under.  To make each coaster a little more secure and give a more finished look, I did a blanket stitch around the hands.  I wanted to cover my not so pretty underside, as well as make the coaster a bit more substantial, so I Wonder-Under-ed another 4×4 square in a corresponding color to the back of each one and used my new rotary cutter (Thanks Mom!) to trim the edges.  Finally, I edged each coaster with more blanket stitching.

I really liked the finished product…my only regret was that I should have made one more set to keep.  Then again, the blanket stitching did get pretty old about coaster #5.  :)

For some reason, I have determined that a family Christmas card is a vital part of the holiday season.  However, that simple concept seems to be the source of stress and frustration every year.  It should be a cinch, really…a little Holiday Howdy to all the friends and family, perhaps a photo, maybe a quick note, possibly a summation of the year’s events.  This year I was planning ahead though…this year it would be different.  I had managed to get the three of us together for a photo (which I love) before December 25th and had even ordered a fantastic little card from Zazzle.  Then because I knew I wouldn’t get the cards before I left for Colorado, I decided to ship them home instead of here.  I figured that would give me time to finish the letter and labels and send them out in plenty of time.  But…

Once in Colorado, I never seemed to have time to print out the letters or update the labels.  After the cards arrived, I barely was able to print enough to hand deliver to the immediate family we celebrated with.  Then, thanks to incredibly generous family, we actually couldn’t fit everything into our suitcases and so shipped two boxes home, rather than pay to take extra suitcases on the plane.  In my infinite wisdom, I stupidly included the box of Christmas cards in the shipped boxes (so as not to have too heavy of suitcases).  So now I won’t have the cards for at least another week!  The worst part is, that I didn’t even realize the dilemma until after I was home and had printed out all the letters and labels and was sitting down to stuff envelopes!

So, apologies to all of you who will receive our “Christmas” cards in mid-January.  Consider it my effort to keep Christmas in your heart all year round!
