I mentioned a few days ago that I picked up a new hobby, thanks to this adorable book by Rose Langlitz. In it she gives patterns on how to crochet everything from bacon to sushi to green beans to pumpkin pie. She even has a blog where she posts a few additional patterns (like mashed potatoes and gravy to go with the turkey legs). Of course there are the staples like apples and chocolate chip cookies, but who wouldn’t want to play chef with your own fruit pizza or Greek pita filled with falafel?
To begin, I had to stock up on yarn, of course. And thanks to a sale at JoAnn’s it was less than $25 for all of this. To be honest though, I’m using the cheap stuff. I figure if this food is going to get played with, sucked on, dropped outside and thrown in a washing machine, there’s really no need to go with 100% vicuna wool.
So these are my first few attempts. Seeing as how I’ve never crocheted before and am only learning by following the illustrations at the back of the book, I know my 2nd apple, egg, strawberry and Neapolitan ice cream sandwich are bound to by prettier than my first. But Kade doesn’t seem to care if I make a mistake. I think the funniest thing is that he likes to feed the strawberry, egg and apple to his various animals. However, the ice cream sandwich is used for a cleaning scrubby and he wipes down the coffee table with it. I guess this means I should introduce him to this delicacy sometime soon and lay off the cleaning for a day.
