Kyle received a couple of books for Christmas on making wooden toys and was anxious to try something.  So on the weekends he wasn’t working, he cut this set out, wheels and all.  It’s from the Great Book of Wooden Toys by Norman Marshall.  We painted them, added some felt ears and tails (some of which have since been “shortened”), and metal hooks and loops to connect them.

Kade absolutely LOVES them and it’s so fun to watch him line them up like they are at a starting line or hook them together and drive the train around and around the coffee table.  He knows what noises they all make – he roars for the lion and bear, trumpets with his arm for the elephant, bends his neck for the giraffe, spits for the camel and my favorite…opens his mouth impossibly wide for the hippo.  He’s also very particular that the hooks be pointing downward and all play comes to a halt until the situation has been remedied.

Oh my goodness! These are adorable! Can we put in orders! You guys should sell these on Etsy.com! Noah is discovering all the different animals at the moment, saying “woof” for dog and “roar” for a lion and my favourite, opening and closing his mouth silently for a fish!
