A friend of mine is in the process of adopting an adorable little girl and so a few of us gave her a baby shower last Saturday in celebration. The mom-to-be much prefers wooden toys to plastic and has a very modern style, so I wanted to give something keeping those two things in mind. I decided on a set of handmade alphabet blocks. Here is a little “How To:” in case you’d like to make your own.
For this project, I had to rope Kyle into helping me. He started with a 1 x 6 and cut it down to the size I needed.
Then routed the edges for a softer, more kid-friendly finish.
We then gave each block a quick sand with fine paper to smooth the surface and get it ready to paint.
I used a non-toxic milk-paint in a dark brown to match the stickers I chose, but it comes in various “natural” colors.
Once the blocks were dry, it was time to bring them to life. I had ordered alphabet stickers from K & Co. They have some of THE cutest collections, specifically the Actopus to Zelephant line.
You could, of course, choose any sticker set and cut your blocks accordingly. Kyle and I also made a set of blocks (half stained and half left natural) as a memory game for Kade, using family photos. A very quick project with endless possibilities – hope you enjoy!
